The incident started around 8:32 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 25, when police responded to the area of 250 Gilman St., in Bridgeport, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the department.

Responding officers did not initially locate a victim at the scene, but soon after officers met with a 21-year-old woman who drove to police headquarters after being shot by her ex-boyfriend Jovan Boyd, 28, of Bridgeport, Jones said.

According to Jones, Boyd shot the woman on Gilman Street as she was seated in her vehicle. A second woman and a three-year-old child were also in the car at the time of the shooting. Neither was injured during the shooting. The victim was shot in the left arm and treated at St. Vincent's Medical Center.

Boyd was tracked to 360 Pacific St., where officers spotted him and chased him on foot until he was able to make it back to his residence before being caught, police said.

Police secured the scene after Boyd told officers he was armed and refused to surrender. A police negotiator made contact with Boyd and spoke to him for some time, but Boyd still refused to surrender to police, Jones said.

Boyd quit speaking with police by phone around 3:15 a.m., Monday, Aug. 26, and did not answer for several hours. Police then brought in a piece of specialized equipment from the Stamford Police Department and Boyd was located dead in the basement of the home, Jones said.

The Bridgeport Fire Department assisted at the scene.
